Tasting T2.2 England Light Whites
This tasting was one we were very keen to try early in the list as to be frank, we know very little about English wine other than the fact that it is rising in quality every year. It’s not just that climate change is having a benefit on the growing season and therefore the ability to ripen a wider range of grapes, it is also the wine knowledge that has been gained by young winemakers travelling the world, receiving education and skills and returning to home. Further to that there are also benefits of the vines ageing in vineyard sites...
Tasting T3.6 New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc
So it was Harry’s choice to start just about as far away as we could get geographically. I guess it makes sense to start in New Zealand as they are the furthest of our wine Tasting countries ahead of us on the world time clock. As to his choice of Sauvignon Blanc, well I guess he wanted to grab our attention with some vibrant and racy mineral wines to get our tasting juices flowing. New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc has risen to its standing as a major wine name from pretty much nowhere historically. Sauvignon Blanc was first planted in the...
60
So what do you do to celebrate turning 60? Well, to celebrate my 60th becoming ever closer on the horizon, I decided to also celebrate my joy in all things wine and to enjoy a series of tastings to be carried out in the two years either side of my 60th Birthday (April 29th 2023). Since Christmas I have made a plan which hopefully will give both Harry, myself, Kim and a few friends the opportunity to try some truly wonderful and exciting wines. Not all wines are expensive, not all wines will be great, but we hope to learn...
Bank Holiday Feast (August)
Where has this sun gone?!?!!?!? Genuinely I am distraught about the lack of heat and sunshine we have been experiencing. I think we have had 2 good weeks? I may be overexaggerating of course but still… not happy. There is however, one good thing that always comes out of August. The Bank Holiday. A great time really whether it is pouring with rain or the sun is so hot it burns you through your parasol. Given that we live in the most changeable weather country in the world, I have decided to choose 4 wines that should cover all bases...
It's Comin' Home (July)
You better believe that every 2 or 3 years when a major international tournament comes around that I, like every other English citizen, will firmly believe that this year it’s comin’ home!! It has been a rather interesting tournament, as expected with a lot of controversy! Penalties being given that were a bit soft… Handballs given that were extremely harsh and France being knocked out by Switzerland has got to be my favourite moment so far. Anyway you didn’t come here to read about England’s chances of winning the Euro’s as you can read that everywhere at the moment. What...
